6 Sustainable Trends to Know from New York Fashion Week

When New York Fashion Week comes to town, trends abound—on and off the runway. This year’s sustainable designers were not only following trends but setting them too. Here are Sustainable Baddie’s fav trends from NYFW24:

1. No Makeup-Makeup

Glossier-inspired natural makeup looks were all over the city. Susty designers like Allina Liu captured this natural and earthly-inspired energy in their mythology-inspired show this year by keeping the beauty looking au naturel.

2. Baggy but not so Boyish

Gender-expansive fashion is blowing up (as it should be). Susty designers like Rentrayage and Colin LoCascio played with gender by presenting masculine and baggy silhouettes with traditionally feminine styles, colors, and details.

3. Marie Antoinette Corsets

Jane Austen made an appearance on the streets of New York and on the runway this week. Designers like Sophia Hayes of Coolgirl Clothes featured expertly designed corsets at the Natalia Travino Amaro Exhibition, we were inspired by the ethereal corset styles seen on the Mila Sullivan runway, and blown away by Collina Strada’s modern take on the classic corset style.

4. Sexy Sheer 😳

Susty designers like Chase Shuman and Veronica Arroyo of Vaed illuminated sexy styles with sheer and lacy looks. Who doesn’t love a little skin showing?

5. Put a bow on it!

Sandy Liang did something when she introduced the tiny bow to the Susty fashion community. She maintained her signature style on her own runway, but we saw skinny and dramatic bows make their way to tons of other shows like Allina Liu’s, Mila Sullivan’s, and Noémie Jouas' exhibition submission.

6. Rhinestones! Rhinestones! Did someone say rhinestones?

We can never get enough glitz and glam, and neither can this year's sustainable designers. Designers like Olivia Cheng of Dauphinette and Colin LoCascio glitzed up their designs for their respective shows and Tala Barbotin Khalidy balanced her earth-toned, handmade designs by styling her models with rhinestone-studded beauty looks.
