10 Looks from Sustainable Designers at New York Fashion Week
NYFW SS 24 ignited conversations about girlhood in fashion, the shift towards exhibitions as the new runway, and the evolving dynamics between influencers, fashion writers, and celebrities. But best of all, it featured unforgettable looks by sustainable designers, reinforcing the growing presence of sustainable fashion in the industry. Final looks from PH5: Life in the Factory.
PH5 celebrated garment workers in this collection of sustainable knitwear. Their final look showcases models carrying piles of clothing as a reminder of the impact the fashion industry has on our planet.

Collina Strada: Soft is Hard
Collina Strada considers itself a platform for climate awareness. They work with rose sylk, recycled cotton, and deadstock fabric to create their pieces. Strada had models walk out with forced smiles as musician Oyinda sang “why are we here, the earth’s in fire.”
Look 3 from Tanner Fletcher: Beauty Pageant
Genderless brand Tanner Fletcher’s pieces are made almost entirely in NYC and use a mix of deadstock and organic fabrics.

Look 18 from Studio 189
Studio 189 works with artisanal communities that specialize in traditional African craftsmanship techniques like natural plant-based dyeing, hand-batik, and kente weaving to create African-inspired garments.
5. Dauphinette
Dauphinette: Gods, Girls and Monsters
Dauphinette used vintage embellishments and beads to create this 15 pound jacket. The collection featured an array of upcycled vintage materials like matches, 80s wedding dresses, and shoes.
6. Rentrayage
Look 7 from Rentrayage: Collection XI
Rentrayage’s latest collection used a mix of upcycled denim, trench coats, and lace tablecloths alongside deadstock fabric. The concept was a vision of fashion in a world decimated by climate change.

Melke: First Impressions
Melke's sustainability philosophy centers around the belief that truly enjoyable and sustainable clothing must be created with love and honesty. They emphasize environmental responsibility and aim to eliminate plastic use in the fashion industry.
10. Mila Sullivan
Mila Sullivan: Pray For Me
Independent designer Mila Sullivan created this collection using upcycled vintage curtains, tablerunners, and bedsheets mixed with materials from fabscrap and new fabrics.
