What Susty Brands Would the Sex and the City Characters Shop at Now

The Sex and The City Characters remain influential in the fashion world today. Years after the original season, multiple movies, and now a reboot – the unique and creative styles of these four women have left a mark. Let’s be honest, many things about the show have not aged well (cough, cough transphobia, queerphobia, and racism), but an aspect of the show that has held up is the characters’ sense of fashion. In our effort to make SATC more Sustainable Baddie-esque we wanted to find out – What would the Sex and The City besties wear susty edition? Read on to find out what combinations of thrifted, vintage, ethical, and recycled pieces and accessories would each of these iconic women throw on for a night in the city.

1. Charlotte

“Could you please not use the F Word in Vera Wang?!” Queen of the classy, subtly sweet, and secretly sexy, Charlotte York is known for her preppy and expensive style. Some of her most iconic fashion moments range all the way from Pink and Black Ralph Lauren to a plum backless floor length gown. If Charlotte was traipsing the Upper East Side in 2022 her style would definitely be described as susty, sophisticated, and feminine. She would work a LACAUSA Harmony slip, layered with a pink vintage statement blazer, and a pair of Shelly Ruched Sandals in white from Reformation (Think episode: La Douleur Exquise!). She would accessorize with exquisite jewelry she inherited from her family, and an adorable beaded bag from Anna Learns Things to tie it all together. Charlotte brings a sprinkle of her artistic nature to every outfit and this combination of susty brands, handmade and vintage styles would illustrate her secret spiciness disguised by her conservative exterior.

2. Miranda

“I want to enjoy my success, not apologize for it!” The girl boss before girl boss was even a thing, Miranda Hobbes knows how to dress for the courtroom and after-the-defense drinks. Miranda not only killed the classic suit combo, but also reimagined the pantsuit moment, bringing the professional world and fashion world together. Her iconic moments being purple skirt suit sets, and a chic high neck LBD. In 2022, Miranda would probably be the most concerned with the state of climate change, and equally as in tune with the latest susty styles. Miranda would make a statement hailing a cab in the Upper West Side in Frank and Oak’s Jade pant in plaid, the Empower vegan leather Blazer from Wilfang, and finished with a pair of Intentionally Blank Loafers. No matter the era, Miranda’s outfits will always give away her no-nonsense attitude, and fast fashion is the most nonsensical thing around.

3. Samantha

“I love you, but I love me more.” PR Businesswoman extraordinaire - Samantha Jones is effortlessly confident, iconically sexy, and ridiculously fashionable. Samantha paved the way for modern sexy styles to become the norm amongst the professional, intelligent, and successful. From slinky slips to low rise pants, Samantha’s spicy style is as trendy as ever, but now with a susty spin. Spotting Samantha in 2022 at a bar in the Meatpacking district she would most definitely be dressed to impress. Showing off her iconic legs in a Sarah Mini Skirt from Lisa Says Gah, a santiago top from Girl of The Earth, and set of classic gold hoops from Riva New York, Samantha would make any head spin. But she wouldn’t be caught dead anywhere without making a statement, so you can bet she would be holding a colorful Roomshop bounce bag to set her apart. We all know, however, that what matters most about Samantha’s outfit is whatever is underneath it all. A unique, handmade lingerie set is certainly a statement for Samantha, and this one from Clare Bare feels right up her alley.

4. Carrie

“I like money where I can see it – hanging in my closet.” Last, but certainly not least, Carrie Bradshaw is by far the most influential of them all, and would certainly make a statement as a Sustainable Baddie. As a writer, a fashion icon, and a true romantic, Carrie’s fashion sense is especially unique, always trend-setting, and truly authentic. Carrie is known for outfits that break standards and then set standards, so incorporating susty styles would be right up her alley. Today, if Carrie was spotted taking a late night walk along the Hudson River she’d be catching eyes in this patterned, vintage Christian Lacroix skirt, that she would so expertly pair with Find Me Now the Label’s, Vega Mesh top. Shoe and name brand obsessed, the focus of her fit would be these Ganni Stiletto Sandals found on The Real Real and she would finish the look off with an Oscar De La Renta Necklace using her Rent the Runway membership. Known for her luxury obsessions, renting or thrifting her most prized brands would certainly be something out of a dream.

Unfortunately for the SATC gals, sustainability was not the hot topic in the 90s it is today. However, these smart, successful, and trendy girlies would most definitely have sustainability top of mind in 2022, and hopefully some other major social issues as well. These mashups of brands, styles, and pieces hopefully give you some inspo when you recreate your next SATC iconic fit – and now with a susty spin! Chiao!
